Most baby clothing is designed to a price point. The fabric is adequate, the snaps are functional, the seams land wherever they land. That works until it doesn't - until a rash appears from hardware that oxidizes, or a seam presses against a car seat for two hours straight.
JSO starts with the problems first. Flatlock seams that lie flush against skin. Nickel-free hardware on every snap and zipper. AZO-free dyes throughout. Made with GOTS certified organic cotton. These are specifications, not marketing language.
All JSO products are made with GOTS certified organic cotton - grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers and processed through certified manufacturing chains. We use AZO-free, low-impact dyes throughout the collection. The fabric is soft from the first wash and gets softer with every cycle.
Every construction and material decision in the JSO collection was made with sensitive skin in mind. Flatlock seams eliminate raised edges that cause irritation. Nickel-free hardware removes the most common contact allergen in infants. AZO-free dyes avoid colorants associated with skin sensitivity. Made with GOTS certified organic cotton processed without harsh chemical finishes.
If your baby has known skin sensitivities or a diagnosed condition, we recommend consulting your pediatrician as you would with any new clothing.
A standard overlocked seam creates a raised ridge where the fabric edges meet. For adults, this is rarely noticeable. For a baby pressed against that seam during a two-hour nap or a long car ride, it can be a consistent source of discomfort they have no way to communicate.
A flatlock seam is stitched so it lies completely flush against the skin - no ridge, no edge, no pressure point. They cost more to produce. We use them on every piece in the collection.
Nickel is the most common contact allergen in infants and is frequently misdiagnosed as eczema. Standard snaps and zippers often contain nickel. Every snap, zipper, and closure in the JSO collection is specified nickel-free - including the zipper pull on the sleeper.
AZO dyes are a class of synthetic colorants that can break down into aromatic amines on contact with sweat - compounds associated with skin sensitivity and allergic reactions. This is a particular concern for garments that spend extended time directly against newborn skin. Every JSO colorway is produced with AZO-free dyes and tested before production.
Yes. The Organic Cotton Bandana Bib is available as an individual purchase as well as part of our Starter Set and Joyful Gift Box bundles.
Our products are designed to run true to size with slight flexibility built in to allow for growth. All garments are pre-washed, so minimal additional shrinkage is expected after purchase.
If you're between sizes, we recommend sizing up.
If you're gifting and unsure of the right size, 0-3M is the safest choice. It fits most babies in the first 6-8 weeks and allows a little room to grow. Newborn sizing fits babies up to approximately 9 lbs.
Each product page includes a detailed size guide with weight and height ranges.
Our fabrics are designed to maintain structure while remaining soft. Following the care instructions - machine wash cold, tumble dry low - will help preserve both fit and feel over time.
- Machine wash cold with like colors
- Use a gentle detergent
- Tumble dry low or air dry
- Do not bleach
- Iron on low if needed
- Wash before first use
The fabric relaxes and softens after the first few washes - this is expected and intentional.
All garments are pre-washed before shipping, so minimal additional shrinkage is expected. Washing in cold water and drying on low heat will help maintain size and shape over time. Avoid high heat.
Close the zipper fully before washing to prevent snagging on other items in the load. The double-zip design is durable but closing it before each wash will extend the life of the hardware.

Our products are manufactured in India, a global leader in organic cotton production. We partner with facilities that follow GOTS-certified processes, ensuring strict standards for safety, environmental impact, and quality.
We work with manufacturing partners who follow responsible production practices and certified processes. Our production standards include GOTS certification requirements, which cover both environmental and social criteria including labor conditions.
We produce in intentionally limited batches. This allows us to maintain quality control, reduce excess inventory, and test demand before scaling. Some items may restock - sign up for our email list to be notified when a sold-out item returns.
Our pricing reflects what it actually costs to build this way: GOTS certified organic cotton, AZO-free dye processes, nickel-free hardware, flatlock seam construction, and small-batch production. Organic baby apparel materials cost significantly more than conventional alternatives.
We price to be accessible without cutting the standards that make JSO worth buying in the first place.
